The Historical Archive of the “Fiamma Lanzara” Library opened the doors of its new home at Accademia Costume & Moda, located in the heart of Rome’s Esquilino district, for the very first time on the occasion of Archivissima 2025, the national festival dedicated to promoting archives and historical memory.
The event marked a significant moment for the Historical Archive, which has long safeguarded a precious heritage of documents, letters, and a wide range of archival materials related to the history of the Accademia and the many figures represented within its collections. Taking part in Archivissima 2025, whose theme this year was “On the Side of the Future”, meant not only celebrating memory but also looking ahead. The new archive space, located within the library, has been designed to offer a more immersive research and consultation experience — one that blends tradition, innovation, and accessibility.
On Friday 6 June, the Accademia’s archivist Claudia Pracanica guided visitors through an exclusive journey among documents, photographs, articles, and original letters, recounting the birth and evolution of Accademia Costume & Moda, one of the most important international institutions for education in Costume and Fashion. Participants had the opportunity to explore the collections and discover rare and previously unseen materials, engaging directly with the history, creativity, and people who have helped shape the Academy’s identity.
Archivissima 2025 also became a space for dialogue and exchange: students, scholars, professionals, and enthusiasts gathered among the new shelves of the Historical Archive and the “Fiamma Lanzara” Library, sharing reflections and curiosities on the value of memory and research within contemporary fashion.
The participation in this initiative reaffirms the “Fiamma Lanzara” Libraryas a vibrant centre for research and documentation in Fashion and Costume — a place where knowledge takes shape through study, experimentation, and cultural transmission. The new location marks an important step in enhancing the cultural heritage of Accademia Costume & Moda, strengthening the bond between education, archives, and innovation.
A heartfelt thank you to all visitors who joined this special day, and to Archivissima for making possible this encounter that celebrates memory as a source of inspiration for the future of fashion.
