PERIODICALS ARCHIVE

Over 15,000 magazine issues: from the very first issue of the American edition of Harper’s Bazaar, followed by its Italian counterpart, to the complete collection of Bellezza: Mensile d’Alta Moda e di Vita Italiana, and the latest independent and industry editorial releases, our library holds an extraordinary wealth of fashion publications.

These 15,000 issues are spread across more than 230 Italian and international magazine titles. Among our historical periodical collections, we proudly preserve the first issue of Harper’s Bazaar USA from 1867, along with six complete annual volumes from the 19th century. The archive also holds numerous issues of essential Italian and foreign magazines from the 19th century, invaluable for studying the evolution of fashion and costume of the time, as well as fashion publishing itself. Highlights include Le Journal des Demoiselles, La Mode Illustrée, Margherita, and L’Eco della Moda.

The 20th century section of our periodical archive is enriched by significant collections of both defunct and ongoing Italian and international publications. These include Lidel, Grazia, Annabella, Monsieur, and The Ambassador, culminating in the prestigious collection of Bellezza, the Italian haute couture magazine, personally donated by its historic director Elsa Robiola to Rosana Pistolese.

Other notable collections include Vogue Italia, Vanity, L’Uomo Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar Italia, Sipario, Gap and Gap Bambini, among many others.

The magazines are currently being catalogued in the Italian National Library Service (SBN). For more information on our complete list of periodicals and to arrange a consultation, please contact the library directly.
