A collection of 2,400 volumes that once belonged to Franca Sozzani, the iconic editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia who passed away in December 2016, has been donated to the Fiamma Lanzara Library, with an equal division with IED Moda Milano. This collection will enrich the Fiamma Lanzara Library, Periodicals & Archives (BEA / SBN IEI), expanding the resources available to the public with the establishment of the Fondo Franca Sozzani.
This initiative, aimed at supporting future generations of talent in fashion and design, was spearheaded by Sozzani’s son, Francesco Carrozzini, and her niece, Sara Sozzani Maino. The fund includes both Italian and international editions, covering topics ranging from fashion design to jewellery, from costume history to visual arts, with a strong focus on photography and painting through valuable monographs published by Charta. It also features works on sculpture, graphic arts, and cinema, particularly exploring the role of female icons, as well as books on architecture, product design, music, literature, and history.
“Franca Sozzani has always been a symbol of growth and transformation for us” said A. Lupo Lanzara, President of the Accademia Costume & Moda. ” I vividly recall her visit to our Rome headquarters in 2014, just a few steps from Via dei Coronari. Her elegance, passion, energy, curiosity, and generosity towards students and their projects left a lasting impression. Her words about the importance of having a vision and the determination needed to realise it still resonate today. The Fondo Franca Sozzani is an extraordinary addition to our publicly accessible library and represents a precious gift from Francesco and Sara, for which we are deeply grateful. It is a legacy that now belongs to everyone, forever.”
